How We Train Our Cleaners to Meet Our Standards: My Personal Journey

When I first started hiring cleaners for Miss Meticulous Cleaning Co, I thought it would be simple. I assumed I could just bring someone on board, show them the basics, and they’d figure out the rest.
I quickly realised I was so wrong.
Within a few months, we started receiving multiple complaints from clients. Staff were leaving. It was a harsh wake-up call: running a cleaning business is no joke.
That experience taught me that if I wanted to maintain the high standards Miss Meticulous is known for, training couldn’t be rushed or taken lightly.

Our Training System Today
Now, a huge amount of time goes into onboarding and training new hires. Every cleaner goes through a structured process to make sure they meet our meticulous standards—and keep both themselves and our clients safe.
1. Hands-On & Manual Training
Each new hire completes practical, hands-on sessions with our owner. We also provide a detailed training manual so they can refer back to it anytime.
2. Online Training & Checklists
Our team uses a training app with videos and step-by-step instructions. They also have cleaning caddy checklists to guide them through every task—from bathrooms to behind toilets.
3. Proof Checking
To make sure every clean meets our standards, cleaners send me photos of completed tasks. This isn’t about micromanaging—it’s about ensuring consistency, quality, and accountability.
4. Product & Safety Training
All cleaners are trained to use family- and pet-safe products, like Enzyme Wizard, Banyar Degreaser, and Lencia. We focus on safe, effective cleaning practices so clients’ homes are spotless and safe.
5. Attention to Detail & Professionalism
Cleaners learn to go beyond surface cleaning: skirting boards, light switches, oven racks, shower tracks… no corner is overlooked. We also teach professionalism, punctuality, and client communication.
Why We Do It
The extra time, effort, and structure in our training process might seem like a lot—but it’s worth it. Not only do we prevent mistakes and injuries, but it also creates a team we can trust to uphold our standards.
I’ve learned that hiring isn’t just about filling positions. It’s about creating a culture, providing support, and giving your team the tools they need to succeed. And ultimately, that’s what makes Miss Meticulous Cleaning Co stand
